An Alberta band got some micro-mentorship from a big-time musician last month. The only catch? The band members are a little bit country, and he’s a little more R&B.

On Aug. 9, Landon Franson, guitarist and vocalist for The Dirt Rich Band, based in Kitscoty, Alta., about 220 kilometres east of Edmonton, took a one-on-one Skype call with Wyclef Jean.
