The east coast was the center of attention on the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards stage as five big-name artists performed snippets of their chart-topping songs. All except one are veterans in hip hop: Naughty By Nature, Queen Latifah, Wyclef Jean, Redman, and Fetty Wap. On a night when New Jersey earned more shout-outs than  Taylor Swift  dance cut-away shots at Monday's (Aug. 26) 2019 MTV VMAs, the show closed down an atypically sedate night of performances and awards with an energetic, all-star tribute to the Garden State's native hip-hop legends. The 2019 summer festival season has been host to a wide range of live musical acts, but few can compete with the incomparable experience that comes with attending Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival. Golden Gate Park looked almost dream-like against the “Fogust” skies — San Francisco famously experiences extreme levels of fog during the month of August — where Hip-Hop and R&B standouts like Lil Wayne, Childish Gambino, Leon Bridges and Ella Mai shared a bill with rock, pop and alternative acts like The Lumineers, Kacey Musgraves, blink-182 and Twenty One Pilots amongst others. The result? Three days of cross-genre harmony in the heart of the Bay Area, in addition to the first weed-approved festival for legal consumption & purchase by way of the Grass Lands section. However, the biggest surprise came by way of The House by Heineken with a special secret performance from Hip-Hop icon  Wyclef Jean . 10. Wyclef Jean ft. Young Thug, “I Swear” (2016) Sparkling as bright as the aquamarine waters of the South Pacific, “I Swear” sounds like it belongs in a Royal Caribbean commercial—only with Wyclef’s crooning and Thugger’s warbling in place of your standard voiceover. Backed by surfy synth splashes, the ATL rapper’s voice feels like sunshine on the skin and sounds like waves crashing on the beach. It’s a forgotten gem in the Pop Thugger canon, and more importantly, proof positive that a half-assed Young Thug feature is more entertaining than most rappers’ best guest spots. Singer-songwriter  Wyclef Jean , a founding member of The Fugees, will headline the House by Heineken tent at Outside Lands this weekend, according to a news release from the alcohol brand. He’ll perform solo in a pop-up performance on Sunday evening. “I’m looking forward to connecting with the loyal fans of Outside Lands to bring awareness to topics that are important to me through my music,” Jean said in the news release.
