Practicing synchronized dance moves? If you frequent the same dry-cleaner as The Knocks and Wyclef Jean, the answer is a strong “probably.” The New York dance duo teamed up with the Haitian-born rapper/singer on the particularly groovy track that turns a famously gritty Jimi Hendrix lyric into something very disco. Wyclef spoke to Billboard, and the 3-time Grammy winner is looking to inspire the current generation of artists and start a dialogue with their followers. “When people like us from the ’90s decide that we’re gonna come back, we have to be like, ‘You don’t have to change who you are – you can still be you,'” explained Wyclef. “Like on ‘Hendrix,’ dudes like yo, he trappin’ on guitar, Clef sounds like Future with no Auto-Tune or it’s like Future sounds like Clef with Auto-Tune. 10. Wyclef Jean Reflects On "The Score" While Looking Towards "The Carnival III"
If you let the last few years tell it, Wyclef Jean is known for everything but music. In 2010, he declared himself a nominee for president of his home country of Haiti, though the country's Provisional Electoral Council ruled him ineligible for office. He also suffered backlash when media outlets reported that his charitable organization, Yéle Haiti, was mismanaging funds, benefitting him personally instead of raising money for relief of the country’s devastating earthquake in 2010. And earlier this year, he teamed up with the tech company Creative Labs to create Heads Audio, a new headphone company that has audio technology that he calls Super Stereo. Read more: hiphopdx.com
