An Alberta band got some micro-mentorship from a big-time musician last month. The only catch? The band members are a little bit country, and he’s a little more R&B. On Aug. 9, Landon Franson, guitarist and vocalist for The Dirt Rich Band, based in Kitscoty, Alta., about 220 kilometres east of Edmonton, took a one-on-one Skype call with Wyclef Jean.

On Thursday,  September  6th multi-Grammy award winning and hitmaking platinum rapper, musician and singer  Wyclef Jean  will bring his 70-City "The Carnival Tour," to New York City's Sony Hall. Read more: broadwayworld.com

Wyclef Jean’s love of Haiti reverberates through everything he does, from the music he makes to the food he eats. “It’s part of my DNA,” he says about the country’s cuisine, talking up his love of conch, sauce Creole, and all kinds of fish. This year the musician, record producer, and actor has gone on a full U.S. tour for the first time in a decade. He has  shows  for the Carnival Tour coming up this month and in October, and his latest project,  Wyclef Goes Back to School , comes out October 3. Lenny Kravitz and Wyclef Jean will talk about their music at the intimate Victoria Theater at NJPAC in Newark, as part of a new series entitled “An Evening With …” Since opening in 2008, the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles has presented more than 800 of these programs, which feature conversation and, often, an informal performance. The NJPAC series will be presented in association with the Grammy Museum Experience, which opened last year, housing memorabilia displays and more at Newark’s Prudential Center. Though  Wyclef Jean  has been rather mum on the music end in 2018, the tremendous strides he's made over the course of his nearly 30-year career have not gone unnoticed. Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams awarded Wyclef his key to the city on behalf of the borough and its 2.6 million residents last Thursday (Aug. 16). Brooklyn is one of the many stomping grounds the Haitian-born rapper grew up in as a child. After relocating to New Jersey in his teens, Wyclef went on to form the legendary  Fugees  collective and has sense won multiple awards for their musical efforts, as well as his own solo projects and business ventures.
